Figure 67. Comparison of the 2004 resampling program at Río Negro.
For the 30 samples collected in 2004 the average Nickel value was 1.4% Nickel within a range of 0.73 to 2.70 % Nickel. Mineralization is open to depth in all three pits tested.
Results of the 2004 sampling also confirmed that significant quantity of Cobalt exists in portions of the mineralized zones, averaging approximately 0.08 % Co. Analyses of the samples showed the following general characteristics to the material sampled (Note sampling was completed only to the available depth of 12.5 metres and previous work has documented that the weathered profile averages 20 to 30 metres in depth). The material has low Magnesium oxide content with an average value for the mineralized zones of 2.4% MgO. Iron oxide content averages 37% Fe2O3 for mineralized zones and SiO2 values average 32%.
Two of the sampled pits (260 and 144) have a shallow depleted zone near surface ranging from four to six metres. The portions of the pits re-sampled would best be described as high silica limonite or montronite portion of the weathered profile. Characteristically the saprolite portion of the profile will underlie this material. Sampling also revealed a zone of silica which appears to be barren of significant Nickel mineralization.
La Unión-Barrios
All the exploration work in this area was completed by Jaguar Nickel Corp. (JNI) on the western end of Baja Verapaz, where channel sampling, soil sampling, pitting, manual auger, mechanical auger (TRADO) and diamond drilling have been completed to date.
